Food Adulteration Activist and founder of Anjali Gold Anjali Saxena Supports PM Narendra Modi’s Call to Reduce Cooking Oil Consumption, Advocates Return to Traditional Indian Oils

Delhi, India — Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal urging citizens to reduce excessive cooking oil consumption for a healthier India, Anjali Saxena, food adulteration activist and founder of Anjali gold, has welcomed the message and called for a national shift back towards traditional Indian cooking oils.

Speaking on the issue, Anjali Saxena stated that the discussion should not only be about reducing oil consumption, but also about understanding what kind of oils are entering Indian kitchens every day. According to her, the growing dependence on imported edible oils such as palm oil, sunflower oil, and other heavily imported refined oils is becoming a concern not just for health, but also for the Indian economy.

“India has a strong tradition of using oils like kachi ghani mustard oil, groundnut oil, sesame oil, and coconut oil. These oils have been part of Indian households for generations. But today, imported edible oils have taken over a large part of the market. This is not only affecting food habits but also increasing dependence on foreign imports,” said Anjali Saxena.

She further added that excessive dependence on imported edible oils results in a large amount of money flowing out of the country every year, while Indian farmers and traditional oil producers struggle to compete.

“When we promote traditional Indian oils, we are not only supporting better and more conscious food choices, but we are also supporting Indian farmers, Indian manufacturing, and India’s rural economy. Food should also be part of the self-reliance conversation,” she said.

Over the past few years, Anjali Saxena and the team at Anjali Gold have actively spoken about food adulteration awareness and transparency in food products through digital campaigns and public awareness initiatives. Their campaigns have focused on educating consumers about purity, sourcing, and traditional food practices.

According to Anjali Saxena, traditional Indian oils were deeply connected to regional climates, local farming systems, and Indian cooking styles long before heavily processed imported oils became mainstream.

“People deserve awareness about what they are consuming daily. India already has its own rich food traditions and natural cooking oils. The more we reconnect with them, the more we support both our health and our economy,” she added.

As discussions around healthier lifestyles and responsible food consumption continue to grow across the country, voices advocating traditional Indian food systems and reduced dependency on imported edible oils are gaining stronger public attention.
